from Pastor Jeff DeWees

Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” As members of the human race, not a single person is exempt from this. As Christians, we acknowledge that we are not perfect, but that we are forgiven because of Jesus’ atoning sacrifice upon the cross. As Cumberland Presbyterians, we believe that God calls us to Himself, and gives us the ability to choose to accept or reject His forgiveness. At Beech Church, we welcome those who, like we, are broken people in need of the Savior. We want to be a hospital to mend the broken, a boot camp to prepare warriors in this spiritual battle, and mostly worshipers glorifying and praising God.

As the pastor, I consider it my responsibility to provide training, encouragement and guidance for those of the congregation. I have no special authority beyond that which is spoken of in scripture. I consider it my responsibility to remain steeped in the word of God (the Bible) so that I can infuse God’s word into the congregation, both on a weekly basis through sermons, teaching opportunities and on an individual basis when advice/guidance is needed. Ultimately, I am an under-shepherd, whose responsibility is to care for the sheep (people) within my charge and likewise provide encouragement within the body of Christ.

The DeWees Family

When a pastor serves a Church, it isn’t just the pastor who serves. This is definitely true with the DeWees family. Beech Church is blessed to have this beautiful family serving our Church.

Jeff’s beautiful wife, Stacey, is an elementary school teacher at Westmoreland Elementary. Their children are Annabelle and Andrew are twins who attend Beech High School. The entire family serves our Church in countless ways and we are blessed to have them.

Our Church Leadership

Session

The Session is the governing body of a Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Here at Beech Church, the Session is comprised of 12 elders who have been voted upon by the congregation. These elders serve as representatives of the congregation within the body of the session, while likewise covenant to lead the congregation in holiness and study.

Beech Church Committees

John Heywood is attributed with the proverb “many hands make light work”.  At Beech Church, this is definitely true.  Our congregants volunteer their services in many capacities by serving on committees.  There are many opportunities to volunteer.

Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion – it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.

Billy Graham

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.

C. S. Lewis
